One Word 2015

2015 feels like it is in-between. In-between where I have been and where I am going. When thinking about my One Word for 2015, I have considered a lot of words. Sassy, Patient, Courageous. Yet none of them seem to be a good summary for my life, as I continue to return to this idea of being in-between. Then I realized, when one is In-between one thing and another, often they are on a road. So my One Word for 2015 is Roads.

Roads are connections. Connections between people, connections between places, connections between ideas. Roads get you from where you are to where you want to be. And when you do not have a road, you go off the beaten path. Sometimes that path becomes a new road. Roads go over bridges, roads wind through mountains, roads push through tunnels.

Roads are for going to known places, roads are for new adventure.

Sometimes there are stoplights on roads. Sometimes all of those stoplights are red, sometimes they are all green, sometimes you rush through a yellow just in the nick of time.

Along the road there are many people, sometimes these are people we meet and interact with and have a profound moment. Sometimes people on the side of the road want something from us, and we have to consider that. Sometimes we have something for someone on the road.

I find myself in a position where I may not know all of where the road takes me, but that is how all of the best road trips start. No, really, I went on a road trip like that once and it was great. I believe this year is about the journey, not the destination.

So here is to 2015, where, as it turns out, Doc Brown was wrong.

We do need roads.
