My Next Race

My last race was in fall 2012, a glow-in-the-dark 5k that I ran with my buddy Ed. It actually is my best time on a 5k, which is surprising because I did not train for that race. We made the decision to run in it the day before and I registered day-of.

I figured that registering at the last minute is a strategy that has worked for me in the past, so registering at the proverbial last minute is what I have done for The Sweet Run 2014, a part of the Rock-and-Roll Half Marathon in Portland. The run is May 18th, and I am very excited. Also nervous. Also a little bit sad because without a car, where will I put my 13.1 sticker?

Part of the run is raising money for The Cupcake Girls. The Cupcake Girls is an organization based out of Las Vegas, Nevada that has a local chapter here in Portland, Oregon.

Montgomery Park is just one of the buildings from the National Historic Register that I regularly pass on my training runs.

The Cupcake Girls helps the women working at these locations by providing support and encouragement as well as tangible services like financial planning, assisting with finding proper professional care for issues that may arise and being available to talk to. Currently, they are trying to raise the funds to have their own physical space, which would make a huge difference for their organization.

My goal is to raise $1000 for The Cupcake Girls. If you donate, you could select a song for my practice workouts, or for my run. You can select a route I run in the city of Portland at least once a week (no more than 6 miles) and much more! Click here to go donate!
