I have been thinking a lot about my writing and how to bring in to the next level. How to make it more concise, more unique, more informative. As I was pondering this, I thought about my time on the newspaper (both here at my Beautiful California University and in high school) and what I learned from that.
Newspapers are the voice of the people, and journalists are the megaphone. Seriously. Journalism is driven by quotes from interviews. Interviews are the heart of journalism. Journalists purpose is to  channel the words and ideas that are spoken by those interviewed.
I realize that was a very simple thought and only a few sentences long, but I feel like it really simplifies and captures the purpose of journalism. Because we do not read the newspaper to see what journalists are saying. We read the newspaper to see what people are saying.
