Nathanial Garrod

Hello.

Sometimes I want to go talk to people I do not know.

I find myself walking around my Beautiful California University, watching  people. I see so many people that look so fascinating. The way they dress, the way they walk, little snippets I hear on the phone. I want to break out of my headphones and greet the world.

How often do I pass the same person multiple times? How often do I see this person or that person in the same day? Have we taken a class together, lived in the same building, sat mere tables apart in the cafeteria?

Why have we not spoken yet? We could have dozens of things in common. We could be good friends, best friends, inseparable.

I think we should work to break down the social boundaries that say we cannot greet each other and chat unless we are in the same room, at the same event, doing the same activity. I think that passing someone, standing in line with someone or walking by someone should be a perfectly fine reason to talk to people.

Or maybe I am just too optimistic.

This may just be me, but I tend to talk to people no matter where I am, or what I’m doing. Waiting rooms, lines, people I’ve met on the shuttle to the airport, anywhere really. If I want to talk to someone, I talk to them. The worst they can do is walk away, and that’s never happened to me anyways. I say if you want to talk to someone, do it. I do it all the time and it makes life much more interesting.

    true

i hate lame antisocial attitudes that leave people secluded within a big huge comfort bubble… whats to be scared of…?

i guess we could attribute this to people being so unwilling to accept others; i guess people have a small range of individuals who they grant acceptance…

makes me wonder what creates this range…of course a lot of this would have to do with insecurities, nature/nurture etc etc..<we know this list is unending … i have to stop myself in this post now as i may continue on forever…

(yes, i love using my periods ha)

I talk to people wherever I am. Its pretty easy if you give them a warm smile and say hey whats up?
