Good comedy is funny because it gives us pause to reconsider some part of our lives and while making us laugh about the absurdity of that thing, taken to a high extreme. Jimmy Fallon and Justin Timberlake sitting down and having a conversation in a room with hashtags being an active part of their conversation is now one of my favorite comedy bits – the hashtag, created for the purpose of following conversations others are having, has descended into the madness of small absurdities. I have used hashtags in conversations as a way to be clever or funny. I am totally guilty of things like “#NOMNOMNOMNOM” both on Twitter and in real life. The “hashtag-hands” Fallon and Timberlake use really accentuate the bit.

What about you? Have you ever spoken in hashtags? What’s the most absurd hashtag you’ve used on Twitter? What do you think of hashtag-hands?
