Snow Day PDX Pictures – January 3, 2016

Occasionally it snows in Portland. Even more rarely, that snow sticks, freezes over and becomes an ice-y death trap.

Currently, we are in the frozen ice-y death trap stage, but yesterday I woke up to fresh powder and joy. There is a certain spirit in Portland when it snows, a spirit of joy and optimism and kindness. Also; mostly empty streets.

There is really minimal infrastructure here for dealing with snow, because it snows so rarely. The Old Farmers Almanac did predict that the early part of 2016 would have more snow in this region than years past, and it is already predicted for later this week.

Yesterday when it started snowing, I took my camera (Sony NEX-5T) out and took some pictures – I had to run down to my office anyway. (The last two pictures were on my iPhone 6s)

So this pumpkin has been sitting near my apartment since just after Halloween.

The iconic Pioneer Courthouse Square, it even has the Christmas tree still. The only thing that could make this a bit better is if the tree had the lights on. Well, and more snow.

I think this is the best photo I have ever taken of this building, and I have taken a quite a few photos of this building.

Lindsay, Evan, Jeremy and I played in the snow outside Lincoln High for awhile, and it was pretty fun. Jeremy even built a little mini snow-man, and they all did snow angels.
